Energy Calculator
The energy calculator below is intended to be a rough guide on the typical annual running costs of an outdoor heater.
The calculation has made several assumptions :-
- When you turn the outside heating on, it is left on for the whole opening time and that you are not running in and out turning the heat on and off.
- The standard size 30 litre patio gas bottle would be used to fuel a gas heater (price correct at June 06).
- The 3.5kw gas heater will burn ½ litre of propane gas per hour.
- We have used two electric 1.3KW heaters for comparable heat output to that of the 3.5KW gas unit in our calculation"

How to complete
It couldn't be easier :-
- Enter the number of hours your business is open in a day. (i.e. 10 hours?)
- Enter what % of the year the heater will be used, this will vary whether you live in the south of England or the far north of Scotland (suggested 80%?)
- Enter an estimate of the % time your smoking area will be occupied. (typically 50%?)
- Enter the cost you are currently paying for your units of electric in pence (this will be on your last electric bill). (8, 10, 12, 14p?)
- Finally how many outlets do you have where outside smoke areas are permitted/planned.
